Lebanon faces worsening humanitarian crisis as UN warns of mass displacement

The United Nations has warned that the humanitarian situation in Lebanon has become unsustainable amid Israel's continued offensive against Hezbollah in the south and east of the country. UN officials say air strikes and ground incursions have destroyed basic infrastructure, displaced large numbers of civilians and cut off essential supplies, prompting calls for immediate humanitarian access.

The UN reports that the Israeli strategy includes systematic destruction of rural areas, which some observers describe as a potential ethnic cleansing. No cease‑fire appears imminent, and the conflict threatens broader regional stability, given Iran’s backing of Hezbollah and the risk of escalation involving the United States.

The agency urges the international community to intervene urgently to prevent further deterioration of living conditions for Lebanon’s civilian population.
