Lebanon Ministry of Economy intensifies inspections against pricing violations
The Lebanese Ministry of Economy and Trade has intensified field inspection tours across various regions to protect consumer rights and ensure compliance with official pricing and food safety standards.
In recent days, the Ministry reported issuing 26 violation reports and 5 warnings. A significant portion of enforcement targeted private generator operators in Southern Lebanon, where 51 violation reports were filed between September 1 and September 22 for failing to adhere to official electricity rates.
In Northern Lebanon, inspections addressed complaints regarding generators in Tripoli, Zgharta, Akkar, and other areas. Authorities issued 8 violation reports against operators charging approximately 80 cents per kilowatt-hour, exceeding official Ministry of Energy rates, alongside 5 written warnings in Batroun and Zgharta.
In the Bekaa region, patrols monitored weighing accuracy and food safety, resulting in 2 violation reports at a restaurant and a poultry slaughterhouse. The Ministry confirmed it will continue these intensified inspections to prevent illegal price hikes and ensure public safety.
