Lebanon's architectural heritage damaged by Israeli strikes

Israeli military strikes in southern Lebanon have caused extensive damage to the region's architectural and historical heritage. In the city of Nabatieh alone, shelling has destroyed 147 homes, many of which were between 80 and 110 years old, with some dating back 200 years. These structures often belonged to local political leaders and historical figures.

Notable losses include the Al-Assad family estate in Taybe and the Khalil al-Abdallah residence in Khiam, which was built in 1862. The Al-Zain family is currently attempting to restore what remains of the Yusuf Bey al-Zain house following heavy damage.

Dr. Saad al-Zain reported that the Abdul Aziz al-Zain house, which served as a cultural hub and a small museum documenting the history of Jabal Amel since at least 2000, was completely destroyed by an Israeli strike. The loss impacts not only the physical architecture but also the cultural and social activities hosted within these historical sites.
