Lecce obtains support to suspend Lameck Banda's salary

The Italian football club Lecce has received a favorable opinion from the Independent Commission for the Verification of Economic and Financial Equilibrium regarding its decision to suspend the salary of player Lameck Banda.

The dispute arose after the Zambian winger failed to report for team training and did not communicate with the club. Lecce maintains that Banda is still under contract until June 2027, following an automatic renewal, while the player claimed to be a free agent. This disagreement surfaced as Banda reportedly approached a deal with Libyan champions Al-Swehly Sports Club.

Previously, an arbitration panel ordered Banda to pay a fine of 256,250 euros due to contract duration issues and his failure to return to the team as scheduled in July 2026. While the national arbitration process has concluded, Lecce is still pursuing legal action through FIFA to seek damages for what they characterize as a termination without just cause.
