Lecce and Lameck Banda contract dispute

Overview

An arbitration panel ruled in favor of the Italian football club U.S. Lecce in a dispute with former player Lameck Banda. The ruling established that Banda’s contract was valid until June 30, 2027, and determined that his failure to report for duty starting July 1 constituted a serious breach of contract. Consequently, Banda was issued a disciplinary fine of 256,250 euros following his departure to join Al-Swehly Sports Club.

Following the arbitration, Lecce received support from the Independent Commission for the Verification of Economic and Financial Equilibrium to suspend Banda’s salary. While the national arbitration process has concluded, Lecce continues to pursue legal action through FIFA, seeking further damages and international sanctions against both the player and Al-Swehly Sports Club for what the club characterizes as a termination without just cause.
