Lecco Introduces Contactless Ticketing on Arriva Buses

From mid‑July, Arriva Italia buses operating in the Lecco area will accept EMV contactless payments. Passengers can use Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, American Express cards, or digital wallets such as Google Pay, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, as well as contactless‑enabled smartphones and wearables. A tap‑in at boarding and a tap‑out at alighting triggers the validator, which calculates the fare based on the actual distance travelled and posts a single charge at the end of the day. If the exit tap is missed, the maximum fare is applied. The system also permits one card to cover up to eight passengers.

The rollout was announced at a press conference on 23 July, attended by Lecco Province Vice‑President Mattia Micheli, Agency Vice‑President Franco De Poi, Lecco’s Mobility Assessor Stefano Parolari and Arriva Italy CEO Angelo Costa. Traditional ticket‑sale channels and the Arriva MyPay app remain available for those who prefer them.
