Leclerc gas station contamination causes vehicle breakdowns in Dordogne

Dozens of motorists in Périgueux, Dordogne, have experienced vehicle breakdowns after refueling at a Leclerc gas station in early August. The diesel fuel was reportedly contaminated with water, resulting in a substance described by victims as resembling “honey,” “mud,” or being “thick and brown.”

Leclerc stated that the contamination was caused by water infiltrating the fuel tanks following heavy rainfall at the end of July. The company noted that the tank has since been repaired and that they are in direct contact with affected customers to review their situations.

The mechanical damage can be severe, potentially requiring the replacement of fuel pumps and injectors, as well as a complete cleaning of the fuel tank and circuit. Repair costs for affected drivers are estimated to range between 4,000 and 8,000 euros, excluding additional expenses such as towing, vehicle immobilization, and rental cars.
