Fuel contamination at Périgueux Leclerc station

Overview

In early August, water infiltration into fuel tanks at an E. Leclerc service station in Périgueux, France, caused diesel fuel contamination. The contamination, attributed to heavy rainfall at the end of July, resulted in fuel that victims described as appearing like “honey” or “mud” and being “thick and brown.”

Dozens of motorists reported significant mechanical failures, including damage to fuel pumps, injectors, and tanks. Repair costs for affected drivers are estimated to range between 4,000 and 8,000 euros.

Leclerc stated that the tank has since been repaired and that the company is in direct contact with affected customers to review their situations. Drivers are seeking compensation from the station manager, Petrolec Sud.
