Greek Police dismantle criminal group behind Lefkada bomb plot

Greek authorities have dismantled a criminal organization linked to a bomb plot targeting the villa of an 81-year-old Greek-American businessman in Lefkada. The incident, which occurred in January 2026, involved an explosive device containing approximately 10 kilograms of explosive material. Although the device was ignited, the fuse reportedly went out, preventing an explosion.

Police have arrested six individuals—five men and one woman—in various locations, including Piraeus, Aegina, and Nikaia. Investigators believe the group was acting under orders from two inmates at Malandrino Prison, who are identified as the moral instigators of the attack. The group is believed to consist of eight members in total.

In a separate but related law enforcement action, police in Lasithi conducted an operation targeting drug trafficking. This resulted in the arrest of six Greek nationals and the seizure of 132.9 grams of cocaine, 3 grams of cannabis, and 42,820 euros in cash.
