Legal developments in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding criminal sentences
In Croatia, the mother of a 21-year-old man convicted of a fatal school attack in Prečko has requested judicial protection for her son. The man was sentenced to 50 years in prison for 55 criminal acts, including the murder of a seven-year-old boy and multiple attempted murders. While the mother claimed her son is in a severe psychological state and requires urgent care at a prison hospital, the hospital provided a signed statement from the convict denying these claims, leading the judge to deem the mother's assertions unfounded.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has granted a three-month postponement of a prison sentence for Miodrag Malić. Malić was sentenced to three years in prison for inciting national, racial, and religious hatred by glorifying convicted war criminals. The court approved the delay based on his health condition. Malić had previously been convicted for displaying photographs of Ratko Mladić and Radovan Karadžić during a political gathering in Banja Luka.
