Legal proceedings in the Balkan region

Overview

Various judicial developments and criminal proceedings have been reported across Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro.

In Croatia, legal actions include a request for judicial protection for a man sentenced to 50 years for a fatal school attack in Prečko, though a judge deemed the request unfounded. In Serbia, prosecutors have filed appeals seeking harsher penalties for the parents of the Vladislav Ribnikar school shooting perpetrator regarding neglect, alongside an appeal in a double murder case in Arilje.

In Montenegro, the High Court acquitted three doctors in a case involving a death related to H1N1 influenza, a decision the High Prosecutor’s Office intends to appeal. Additionally, a criminal group is facing trial concerning a murder.
