Miguel Quintero ordered to house arrest in AMVA corruption probe
A judge in Medellín has ordered house arrest for Miguel Quintero Calle, brother of former Medellín Mayor Daniel Quintero, following an investigation into alleged corruption within the Área Metropolitana del Valle de Aburrá (AMVA).
Quintero Calle faces charges of undue interest in contract celebrations and embezzlement. The investigation focuses on six contracts between the AMVA and the Itagüí Volunteer Fire Department, valued at approximately 17.6 billion pesos, signed between 2020 and 2022. Prosecutors allege that roughly 2.48 billion pesos were diverted through overcharges on pandemic-related supplies and fraudulent service billing.
While the prosecution and the Medellín Mayor's office requested prison time, the judge ruled that Quintero Calle would serve his detention at home. Meanwhile, co-defendant Sebastián Ortega was granted freedom to continue the legal process. Quintero Calle has maintained his innocence.
