Legal investigations target mining concessions in Argentina and property fraud in Chile

In Argentina, a criminal complaint has been filed against authorities of CAMYEN regarding the alleged irregular adjudication of mining exploration areas in Antofagasta de la Sierra. The complaint asserts that concessions for the Campo de Piedra Pómez and Laguna Purulla sectors were granted despite provincial Law 5070, which protects these natural areas from mining activities. The complainant alleges that officials may have committed crimes related to the abuse of authority and breach of official duties, potentially risking environmental damage.

In Chile, the Talca Court of Appeals has sanctioned Yamile Najle, the suspended conservator of Chillán, for issuing mortgage certificates that omitted a standing lien on a property in Cauquenes. The court found that seven certificates failed to note an embargo in place since 2009, which allowed for the sale of the property through various real estate entities. Gloria Rivera, a substitute notary and collaborator of Najle, also received a sanction for similar omissions. The court has referred the findings to the Public Ministry for further investigation.
