Legambiente reports mixed water quality results across Italy

Legambiente’s recent monitoring campaign highlighted contrasting conditions in two Italian regions. Along the Abruzzo coastline, samples taken at eight sites showed that five complied with legal limits, while three exceeded them, including two classified as strongly polluted and one as polluted. The findings underscore ongoing concerns about sewage discharge, insufficient treatment and runoff affecting popular beach towns such as Giulianova, Tortoreto and Pineto.

In the Veneto region, the same campaign tested seven points in lakes including Mis, Corlo, Cadore, Santa Croce and the Revine lakes. All samples met microbiological standards for Enterococci and Escherichia coli, confirming good water quality. Local authorities received the “5 Vele” award for their environmental stewardship. The divergent results illustrate the need for continued monitoring and targeted interventions to protect both coastal and inland water bodies.
