Legislators call for new regulatory frameworks to manage AI risks

In Zimbabwe, Catholic legislators have proposed a parliamentary debate to address the responsible use of AI, aiming to ensure the technology upholds human dignity and supports national development while addressing ethical concerns.

In the United Kingdom, the Joint Committee on Human Rights (JCHR) has released a report calling for a new AI bill to address human rights risks that current laws are ill-equipped to manage. The committee highlighted issues such as algorithmic bias, the spread of misinformation, and the unauthorized use of facial scanning. The JCHR recommends establishing a single, independent statutory oversight body to regulate AI across its entire lifecycle.

On the global stage, industry leaders including Dario Amodei of Anthropic, Sam Altman of OpenAI, and Elon Musk have expressed support for increased regulation and independent monitoring of AI models to manage the pace of technological advancement.
