Legnano begins reinforcement of ash trees on Viale Gorizia

Work is beginning this week in Legnano to reinforce a row of ash trees located on Viale Gorizia, in front of the Liceo Galilei. The intervention follows the discovery that the trees' root systems were confined in “cages” by pavement, preventing natural development and creating stability risks. This fragility was highlighted by the collapse of one tree on August 17.

The reinforcement process will be conducted in several stages. First, roots will be cleaned using air tools to remove stones and debris. They will then be covered with high-quality soil to encourage growth. Following this, the ash trees will be stabilized with anchors, and finally, the crowns will be pruned to reduce the “sail effect” during strong winds.

Giacomo Pigni, the Councilor for Public City, Sustainability, and Mobility, stated that the project aims to preserve the city's green heritage while ensuring the safety of the hundreds of students who pass through the area daily. The initiative was identified through the “La Scuola si fa città” project.
