Legnano ash tree reinforcement project
Overview
Following the collapse of an ash tree on August 17, the city of Legnano has begun a multi-stage reinforcement project for a row of ash trees on Viale Gorizia, located in front of the Liceo Galilei.
The intervention was prompted by findings that the trees' root systems were confined by pavement in “cages,” which prevented natural development and created stability risks. The reinforcement process involves cleaning roots with air tools, covering them with high-quality soil, stabilizing the trees with anchors, and pruning the crowns to reduce the “sail effect” during high winds.
Councilor Giacomo Pigni stated the project aims to preserve the city’s green heritage while ensuring the safety of students in the area. The initiative was identified through the “La Scuola si fa città” project.
