Lego Group and Sesame Workshop launch nature learning initiative
The Lego Group and Sesame Workshop have partnered to launch a new educational initiative designed to teach children aged 4 to 6 about the natural world through play. Funded by the Lego Foundation, the collaboration features a series of three short videos introducing young viewers to bats, butterflies, and worms.
Each video utilizes Sesame Street characters, such as Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Oscar the Grouch, to explain the ecological roles of these creatures. For example, the video featuring Cookie Monster and The Count demonstrates how bats assist in pollination and crop protection. The initiative encourages children to build habitats for these animals using Lego bricks and recycled household materials like cardboard and tape.
To support the video series, the Lego Group is providing free activity guides and printables. These resources are intended for use by families, educators, and community organizations to facilitate hands-on learning about ecosystems, food, water, and shelter in various settings, including museums and libraries.
