LEGO introduces classic minifigures to Super Mario theme
The LEGO Group has announced a significant shift for its Super Mario theme by introducing traditional minifigures. Since the line's debut in 2020, the series has primarily relied on large, interactive electronic figures designed to mimic video game mechanics. The new direction focuses on classic minifigure roleplay, allowing fans to build scenes and stories using smaller versions of iconic characters.
The refresh includes eight new sets scheduled for release on January 1, 2027. The lineup features characters such as Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Toad, and Bowser Jr. Notable sets include ‘Mario’s Pipe Jump’, ‘Racing with Mario’, and a larger ‘Fire Mario & Bowser’s Castle’ set containing 850 pieces. The collection aims to bridge the gap between the interactive digital play of the original series and the traditional storytelling found in other LEGO themes.
