Leidschendam's Sluisplein Remains Open to Traffic Amid Safety Concerns

The municipal government of Leidschendam-Voorburg has decided that the Sluisplein will not be made car‑free for the time being, citing a lack of suitable detour routes for redirected traffic. Residents and visitors expressed worries that the current mix of cars, electric bikes, fat‑bikes and scooters creates a hazardous environment, especially for children crossing the narrow street.

Local stakeholders suggested temporary road closures during peak periods or a one‑way traffic scheme to improve safety, but officials warned that fully closing the street could increase spill‑over traffic on surrounding roads and affect nearby neighbourhoods. The council acknowledges the safety concerns while balancing the practical challenges of rerouting traffic.
