Leipzig advances school construction and infrastructure investments
Leipzig is continuing its investment in educational infrastructure despite tight municipal budgets. The city has completed a climate-friendly expansion of the Oberschule im Park, which includes a new three-court gymnasium.
School Mayor Vicki Felthaus emphasized that investments in school buildings serve as a signal of commitment to the city's youth, providing modern, barrier-free learning environments. Beyond classroom use, these facilities serve as community hubs for local clubs and afternoon activities.
Future projects include the opening of the Dösner Weg community school and a new gymnasium at Oberschule Ratzelstraße in 2027. Other planned works involve renovations at Löbauer Straße in Schönefeld and at the Gundorf school. The state is expected to fund approximately 30 percent of the planned school construction investments, which total roughly 108 million euros by 2027 and 95 million euros by 2028.
