Leipzig announces highlights for Lichtfest 2026 and October 9th events

The 2026 Lichtfest Leipzig and October 9th commemorations in Leipzig feature a series of cultural and political events. The program includes a prayer for peace at the Nikolaikirche, featuring a sermon by Superintendent Dr. Joachim Jeska from Osnabrück and musical performances by the Bachchor an der Nikolaikirche and the Ensemble St. Nikolai.

Political scientist Cathryn Clüver Ashbrook will deliver a lecture on democracy at the Nikolaikirche, examining threats to liberal democracies in both the United States and Europe. Additionally, the Lichtfest Leipzig 2026 will present a light path through the city center, utilizing light installations and performances to connect the history of 1989 with the present day.
