Leipzig swimming pools implement UV-index protection boards
All six public outdoor swimming pools in Leipzig have now been equipped with UV-index information boards as part of the “Watch Out” campaign. The installation of the 1,000th sign took place at the Schreberbad.
This initiative is a collaborative effort involving the German Cancer Aid (Deutsche Krebshilfe), the Leipzig Health Department, Leipzig Sportbäder, and the Working Group for Dermatological Prevention (ADP). The boards are designed to provide real-time guidance on UV radiation intensity, helping visitors make informed decisions regarding shade, appropriate clothing, and sunscreen use.
Officials emphasized that increasing awareness of UV exposure is a critical public health priority, particularly as climate change makes sun protection increasingly important for preventing skin cancer.
