Leipzig to receive 60 million euros for new sports campus

The Free State of Saxony is providing up to 60 million euros to support the development of a modern sports campus in Leipzig. The project aims to enhance the city's capacity for high-performance sports and major national and international sporting events.

Key components of the investment include the comprehensive modernization of the QUARTERBACK Immobilien ARENA, which will eventually accommodate approximately 12,000 spectators, and the construction of a new ball sports hall with a capacity for up to 5,000 people.

Leipzig Mayor Burkhard Jung stated that the project will create the necessary conditions to attract more large-scale international events to Central Germany. Additionally, the development is viewed as a strategic move to support a joint Olympic bid with Berlin for the 2036, 2040, or 2044 Summer Games.
