Leipzig sports campus development

Overview

The Free State of Saxony is providing up to 60 million euros to develop a modern sports campus in Leipzig. The project is designed to increase the city’s capacity for high-performance sports and major national and international sporting events.

Planned infrastructure includes the modernization of the QUARTERBACK Immobilien ARENA, intended to hold approximately 12,000 spectators, and the construction of a new ball sports hall with a capacity for up to 5,000 people. Leipzig Mayor Burkhard Jung noted that the development aims to attract more large-scale international events to Central Germany and serves as a strategic move to support a joint Olympic bid with Berlin for the 2036, 2040, or 2044 Summer Games.
