Leipzig transforms Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz into a skatepark

Leipzig has launched the ‘Leipzig rolls!’ project, transforming Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz into a modular pumptrack. The facility consists of flexible track elements designed to train balance, coordination, and riding techniques.

The installation is intended for a wide range of users, including those with BMX bikes, dirt bikes, scooters, skateboards, inline skates, and roller skates. While suitable for both beginners and experienced riders, helmet use is recommended for all participants. The project specifically targets children and adolescents aged 8 to 18, as well as schools, youth centers, and local clubs.

Rüdiger Dittmar, head of the Office for Urban Greenery and Waterways, stated that the facility aims to combine physical activity with social participation and promote responsibility in the use of public spaces. The initiative aligns with the future ‘Ökotopia’ open space design and the theme of the 2026 European Mobility Week, ‘Mobility across Generations.’
