Leiria still without fixed telecom services six months after storm Kristin

Around 1,600 customers – mainly in Portugal's Leiria region – remain without fixed communications services roughly six months after the storm Kristin severely damaged the area, according to the national regulator Anacom. The number represents less than 1 % of the originally affected fixed accesses, down from about 20,000 in late April.

Anacom expects most of the remaining connections to be restored within the next two weeks. It has received roughly 2,200 written complaints about the extreme weather events, citing delays in service replacement, recurring faults after repairs, billing for outage periods and scheduling of technical interventions. The regulator states it has addressed about 99 % of the complaints directly received, with the remainder still under review.

Regulator Sandra Maximiano noted that recovery work prioritized the backbone network first, then mobile networks, and finally the fixed‑line infrastructure, which takes longer to rebuild due to the extensive damage and the need to reconstruct the physical network.
