León launches initiatives to combat discrimination and support neurodivergence

In León, Guanajuato, new programs have been launched to address discrimination and support neurodivergent individuals. The Commission of Education, Science, Technology, and Culture has begun the “Neurodivergence: Where all minds learn” forum series at the University of Guanajuato, Campus León. This initiative aims to gather input from specialists and the public to support a reform of the State Education Law, specifically seeking to replace the term “generalized developmental disorders” with “neurodivergence.” Legislators emphasized that the goal is to ensure equitable learning opportunities and create a legal framework for timely diagnoses and pedagogical support.

Simultaneously, the Sexual and Gender Diversity Unit of León has initiated the “Here discrimination is not tolerated” program. The project involves installing 99 informative plaques in municipal buildings to prevent discrimination and encourage reporting. The initiative follows reports that 22 percent of the population in Guanajuato has experienced acts of discrimination. The plaques provide contact information for human rights and anti-discrimination agencies, and the program aims to collect data to identify geographic areas with higher frequencies of discriminatory incidents.
