Spain keeps AP‑66 tunnel works and toll closures in place through November

The Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has launched a new phase of modernization works on the Negrón tunnel of the AP‑66 highway linking León and Asturias. From July to August the westbound carriageway will be closed, with traffic redirected to the opposite lane for two‑way flow between km 82.3 and 88. A second closure period will shift to the eastbound lane from September through November. Work sites include the Entrerregueras, Pando, Vegaviesga, Negrón, Oblanca, Cosera and Barrios tunnels, funded with €76.36 million from EU recovery funds. The ministry warned that lane cuts may also occur in other tunnels from Monday 06:00 to Friday 13:00 while the upgrades progress. In parallel, the government confirmed that the toll on the AP‑66 will remain in effect until at least the end of the year, extending the period of user payments that began in June 2025 after a previous landslide incident.
