Leon Goretzka linked with Atletico Madrid as Bayern contract expires
Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, 31, will become a free agent when his contract ends on 30 June. Atletico Madrid have been offered his services through his representative and are now the frontrunner to sign the German international, who made 48 appearances for Bayern last season, scoring five goals and providing five assists.
Atletico previously attempted to sign Goretzka earlier in the year, offering a nominal fee that Bayern rejected. The club now faces a financial challenge, as Goretzka earned about €15 million gross per year at Bayern, far above Atletico’s wage capacity. Management is exploring salary restructuring or performance‑related bonuses, but no official contract offer has been announced.
Other clubs, including Juventus, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan, are also monitoring the situation. Arsenal previously linked with Goretzka as an emergency midfield solution but have shifted focus to other targets.
