Juventus rebuild: Vlahović completes Beşiktaş move
Overview
Juventus continued its post-Champions League rebuild through August 2026. Striker Dušan Vlahović, who left the club as a free agent, has completed his move to Beşiktaş. Following his arrival in Istanbul on August 11, where he was met by thousands of fans at Atatürk Airport, Vlahović officially signed a three-year contract running through the end of the 2028/29 season. While earlier reports suggested a salary between €8 million and €10 million, the finalized agreement includes a guaranteed net salary of €7.5 million per season, a decrease from his previous €12 million annual salary at Juventus. The move follows a breakdown in contract extension negotiations in Turin, where disagreements regarding salary reductions prevented a renewal. Vlahović was presented to approximately 20,000 fans at the Tüpras Stadium during a ceremony attended by club president Serdal Adalı. Upon his arrival, Vlahović expressed his ambitions in Turkish, stating, “We want to be champions,” and later added, “I was moved because I have never seen such love before. I will give my all for the Besiktas fans.” Beşiktaş manager Vincenzo Italiano, who previously coached Vlahović at Fiorentina, officially confirmed the signing and praised the striker, describing him as a ‘champion’ and an ‘incredible striker’ who will strengthen the squad’s title pursuit. Following a slow start where he failed to score in his first three appearances, Vlahović recorded his first goals in the Turkish Super Lig by scoring a hat-trick in a 6-2 victory against Corum. He opened his account with a penalty before adding two more goals, earning a standing ovation when substituted in the 71st minute. Addressing his departure from Turin, Vlahović clarified that there were no “formal or concrete negotiations” with Juventus management regarding a contract renewal, despite rumors of a refusal to extend.
