Leonardo expresses interest in reindustrializing Beko plant in Siena
Leonardo has expressed interest in contributing to the reindustrialization of the former Beko plant in Siena, Italy. The announcement was made by Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso during a monitoring meeting regarding the Beko dispute.
Siena Mayor Nicoletta Fabio welcomed the news, stating that Leonardo’s interest is a significant signal for the city’s industrial future and the workers involved. The local administration has been working in synergy with the government and Invitalia to secure a future for the Viale Toselli site.
While the announcement is seen as a positive step, labor unions, including FIOM Toscana, have expressed caution. They are calling for specific details regarding investment amounts, timelines, and the nature of the production. Unions emphasized the importance of ensuring that the new project includes significant civilian production rather than relying solely on defense-related activities to ensure a diversified and lasting industrial presence in the region.
