During a monitoring meeting regarding the Beko dispute, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso announced that Leonardo has expressed interest in contributing to the reindustrialization of the site. Siena Mayor Nicoletta Fabio welcomed the news, describing it as a ‘significant signal’ for the city’s industrial future.

However, labor unions, specifically FIOM Toscana, remain cautious. General secretary Daniele Calosi has stated that ‘generic talk of reindustrialization is insufficient,’ and the union continues to demand specific details on investment timelines and product types. Unions are advocating for a diversified production model that includes civilian goods to ensure the site does not rely exclusively on defense-related activities. Unresolved environmental remediation, including asbestos removal, remains a critical barrier to attracting investors. Currently, 148 workers remain at the facility with redundancy protections lasting until December 31, 2027.
