Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale cast in Heat 2, filming set for November 2026
Leonardo DiCaprio has agreed to join Michael Mann’s sequel‑prequel Heat 2, taking over the role of Chris Shiherlis originally played by Val Kilmer. Christian Bale will portray Vincent Hanna, the obsessive LAPD detective previously played by Al Pacino.
The production, now under Amazon MGM after Warner Bros. withdrew over budget concerns, is budgeted at about $170 million. Filming is scheduled to begin in November 2026 and will take place across several continents, including Los Angeles, Chicago, Paraguay and Singapore, with the Los Angeles shoot slated for 77 days.
Additional casting reports link Adam Driver to the antagonist Wardell, Stephen Graham to the young Neil McCauley, and Jason Clarke to the fixer Nate. The project adapts Michael Mann and Meg Gardiner’s 2022 novel, serving both as a prequel and sequel to the 1995 crime classic.
