Leonardo Fornaroli details McLaren development and 2026 reserve role

Leonardo Fornaroli, the current Formula 2 champion, has detailed his ongoing development within the McLaren Driver Development program. Following his consecutive titles in F3 and F2, Fornaroli joined the British team and has been confirmed as an official reserve driver for the 2026 season.

During his time with the team, Fornaroli has participated in numerous simulator sessions to prepare for testing with previous-generation cars (TPC) and first free practice (FP1) sessions. He has also provided support work during Formula 1 race weekends. His practical experience includes participating in free practice sessions at the Grands Prix in Barcelona and Hungary, where he focused on providing aerodynamic data to assist the team.

Fornaroli expressed gratitude for the professional support from the McLaren development program, noting that the intensive training and simulator work have been highly beneficial for his professional growth.
