Lesvos experiences flash flooding following heavy rainfall

Sudden and intense heavy rainfall caused significant flooding on the island of Lesvos, particularly impacting the Skala Eresos area. The rapid accumulation of water led to a river overflowing, carrying stones, soil, and other debris through the region.

In Skala Eresos, floodwaters reached residential yards, though no serious structural damage has been reported thus far. A vehicle was swept away by the strong currents near the Agios Andreas bridge but was successfully recovered before reaching the sea. Authorities intervened to clear drainage channels to restore water flow.

Additional heavy rains were recorded in western and northern Lesvos, including Molyvos, causing issues with water runoff in ravines and low-lying road networks. While the situation in Eresos has since stabilized and water levels are receding, efforts remain focused on removing debris and repairing affected areas.
