Heavy rainfall and flooding in Lesvos

Overview

On October 12, the island of Lesvos experienced flash flooding caused by sudden and intense heavy rainfall. The Skala Eresos area was particularly impacted as an overflowing river carried stones, soil, and debris through the region.

Floodwaters reached residential yards in Skala Eresos, and a vehicle was swept away by strong currents near the Agios Andreas bridge, though it was recovered before reaching the sea. Heavy rains also affected Molyvos and other parts of western and northern Lesvos, causing runoff issues in ravines and low-lying roads. While water levels have begun to recede, authorities are working to clear debris and repair affected areas.
