Levanto prepares for annual Festa del Mare celebrations July 22‑25
The coastal town of Levanto in Liguria will host its yearly Festa del Mare from July 22 to 25, honoring the apostle Saint James. The festivities begin with two days of religious observances, followed on Friday, July 24, by a solemn Mass at the San Giacomo Oratory. Bishop Guglielmo Borghetti of Albenga‑Imperia and Bishop Luigi Ernesto Palletti will co‑celebrate, with the vocal group Musica Nova providing music.
In the evening, a procession led by the historic “Borgo & Valle” group will carry the statue of Saint James through town streets, accompanied by military bands and culminating at the Scoglio della Pietra where a blessing is given and a laurel crown offered to the sea in memory of the fallen. The day ends with a traditional fireworks display over the water. The 2026 celebration is marked by the recent passing of long‑time confraternity member Giacomo Zoppi, who will be remembered during the final ceremony of the three‑day event.
