Levica accuses Education Minister Janevska of lying over student meal subsidies

The Levica political party has accused North Macedonia’s Minister of Education, Vesna Janevska, of lying to the public regarding the amount of student meal subsidies provided. The controversy stems from claims made by Janevska that the government had increased the subsidy amounts, whereas official Ministry of Education and Science calls for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic years remain at 140 denars.

Levica asserts that the Minister’s statements contradict official documentation and that the government has failed to align subsidies with legal requirements. The party further alleges that students have been deprived of approximately 6.5 million euros due to these discrepancies. They argue that if the Minister is unaware of the actual payment amounts, it demonstrates a lack of oversight, and if she is aware, it constitutes a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
