Levica criticizes government over Tikvesh Lake water management
The Levica political party has criticized the North Macedonian government, claiming that the water levels in the Tikvesh Lake reservoir are being maintained due to failing infrastructure rather than strategic management.
According to the party, the water cannot be released through the Crna River because doing so would further erode the already undermined foundations of local bridges near Vozarci. They argue that what Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski describes as a successful state strategy to prevent drought is actually a forced measure caused by years of infrastructure neglect.
Levica asserts that if the bridges had been properly maintained, the water could have been managed more flexibly. They noted that ELEM defines the Tikvesh hydrosystem as a dual-purpose system for electricity production and irrigation for the Tikvesh field, a region highly susceptible to drought.
