Levica party criticisms in North Macedonia
Overview
The Levica political party in North Macedonia has raised several criticisms regarding land use and resource management in the country.
Initially, the party demanded the cancellation of a non-functional technological-industrial zone in Prdejci within the Gevgelija Valley. Levica argued that over 50 hectares of fertile land have remained unused for fourteen years since a 2012 announcement, consisting only of vacant plots and debris. They called for the government to amend planning documentation to return the land to agricultural use for local farmers.
Subsequently, Levica criticized the government’s management of the Tikvesh Lake reservoir. The party claimed that current water levels are maintained by failing infrastructure rather than strategic planning, noting that water cannot be released through the Crna River without undermining the foundations of local bridges near Vozarci. They asserted that years of infrastructure neglect have prevented flexible water management for electricity production and irrigation.
