Levy Rincón denounces suspension of UNP security detail

Social media activist Levy Rincón has denounced the Unidad Nacional de Protección (UNP) for suspending his security detail, which included two bodyguards and a vehicle. Rincón claims the decision was based on an expedited risk assessment ordered by UNP Director Didier Blanco, which allegedly ignored a previous evaluation from two months prior that classified his risk level as extraordinary due to past assassination attempts in Cali and Bogotá.

Rincón has held UNP Director Blanco, National Police Director General Jesús Alejandro Barrera, and President Abelardo de la Espriella responsible for his safety. He further alleged that General Barrera has engaged in a campaign of persecution against him since 2020, and accused De la Espriella of judicial harassment.

Separately, a contract for UNP protection services exceeding 78 billion pesos has faced scrutiny. While the “Libro de la Verdad,” presented by President De la Espriella, raised questions regarding the exclusion of certain geographic zones from the contract, records indicate a court in Pereira had already ordered a temporary suspension of the process via a tutela filed by a UNP bodyguard in July, prior to the publication of the book.
