Lewis Hamilton retains third place at British GP after stewards issue reprimand
Lewis Hamilton finished third at the British Grand Prix on Silverstone, preserving his podium despite a post‑race investigation. The stewards examined a yellow‑flag incident on lap 38 in sector 9, concluding that Hamilton had limited time to react and issued only an official reprimand, leaving his result unchanged. Earlier in the race Hamilton served a five‑second penalty for a false start. A late safety‑car period, triggered by Max Verstappen’s crash, led Ferrari to pit Hamilton for fresh tyres; the strategy cost him second place as George Russell stayed out and finished ahead. Charles Leclerc won the race, with Russell second. Fellow Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz received a one‑lap penalty for overtaking under the safety‑car procedure. Hamilton later criticised the pit decision, saying, “If they told me I was losing position I wouldn’t have stopped,” and reflected on his performance, noting, “All the magic I had on Friday just disappeared.” The outcome keeps Hamilton third in the drivers’ championship, seven points behind George Russell and 32 points behind leader Kimi Antonelli.
