Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano erupts, ash column reaches 2,500 m in Indonesia

The Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano in East Flores, Nusa Tenggara Timur, erupted on Friday, June 5 2026. The volcanic observatory PV M B G recorded an ash plume rising approximately 2,500 metres (about 4,084 m above sea level) and seismograph readings with a maximum amplitude of up to 29.6 mm lasting over two minutes.

Authorities placed the volcano on a Level III (Siaga) alert and ordered a 5‑km safety perimeter around the crater. Residents and visitors were urged to stay calm, follow local government directions, wear masks or cover their nose and mouth to avoid respiratory irritation, and refrain from any activities near the summit. PV M B G also warned of possible lahars and flash floods in downstream river basins should heavy rain occur.
