Lexar announces Muse ultra-thin portable SSD

Lexar has announced the Muse, which it describes as the world’s thinnest portable SSD. The device features a single-piece metal unibody construction and a custom-built PCB, reaching a minimum thickness of 1 mm and a maximum thickness of 3.8 mm.

To maintain its ultra-slim profile, the Muse does not utilize a traditional USB-C port. Instead, it employs a proprietary PogoPin magnetic data connection. It connects via a supplied SnapLink Magnetic cable that attaches to the back of the drive, with the other end being a standard USB-C connector. The SSD is compatible with an optional magnetic case designed to attach to the back of devices like iPhones.

The drive offers read speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s. These specifications allow for direct external recording of Apple ProRes 4K video at up to 120p frame rates on compatible iPhone Pro models. The device is intended for use with iPhones, iPads, Macs, and other compatible hardware.
