Lexar Muse portable SSD launch

Overview

Lexar has announced the Muse, which it describes as the world’s thinnest portable SSD. The device features a metal unibody construction with a thickness ranging from 1 mm to 3.8 mm. To achieve this profile, the drive lacks a traditional USB-C port, instead utilizing a proprietary PogoPin magnetic data connection via a SnapLink Magnetic cable.

Following the initial announcement, Lexar officially unveiled the product at IFA 2026 in Berlin. The device is designed to be compatible with MagSafe-enabled iPhones, allowing it to sit flush against the back of a phone. The SSD supports read speeds up to 1,050 MB/s and write speeds up to 1,000 MB/s, enabling direct external recording of Apple ProRes 4K video at 120p on compatible models. The Muse will be available in 512GB and 1TB capacities, with a release scheduled between October and December 2026.
