Lexus advances hybrid SUV lineup and profit strategy as rivals face losses

Lexus highlighted its plug‑in‑hybrid Lexus NX 450h+ SUV, noting a 2.5‑litre gasoline engine combined with two electric motors, 0‑100 km/h in 6.4 seconds and an electric range of about 70 km. The model costs €70,390 and features Lexus Safety System+ driver aids, over‑the‑air updates and a spacious interior.

At the same time, Lexus executives emphasized the brand’s focus on multi‑energy platforms that allow both hybrid and fully electric models to share components, reducing costs and boosting margins. Director of Technology Hiroki Nakajima said rivals such as Porsche and Honda incur losses on dedicated electric platforms. Lexus sold 882,291 vehicles worldwide last year and plans to launch the six‑seat electric Lexus TZ SUV in Europe and the United States, expecting it to be profitable from launch.
