Lexus launches eighth‑generation ES midsize sedan with hybrid and BEV models

Lexus announced the eighth‑generation ES midsize sedan, unveiling the new model on 11 June 2026 after a preview at the 2025 Shanghai Motor Show. The 8th‑gen ES receives a completely redesigned exterior and interior, a new chassis that supports both hybrid (HEV) and battery‑electric (BEV) powertrains, and an updated infotainment system with OTA updates.

Two top‑level trims are offered: the ES350e Rear Comfort Package (front‑wheel drive) focused on rear‑seat luxury, featuring an electric ottoman and adjustable rear seats; and the ES500e Version L (all‑wheel drive) delivering higher performance. Both models use a 74.69 kWh lithium‑ion battery that can charge from low to 80 % in about 28 minutes using a 150 kW fast‑charger. The ES350e produces 165 kW (224 PS) and reaches 0‑100 km/h in 8.0 seconds, while the ES500e outputs 252 kW (342 PS) with a 5.5‑second sprint. Prices start at ¥9.2 million (tax‑included) for either top trim, with government subsidies available.

The new ES marks Lexus’s first major mid‑size sedan update in Japan in eight years, aiming to revive sedan demand with advanced electrified options and premium rear‑seat comfort.
