Lexus sedan updates feature larger ES and mixed safety ratings for IS

Lexus is seeing mixed developments across its sedan lineup. The eighth-generation Lexus ES has expanded in size, featuring a wheelbase stretched by 80mm and increased overall length, height, and width. The model offers both hybrid and fully electric variants, with high-end trims like the Executive VIP focusing on rear-seat luxury through features such as massage functions and legrest ottomans. The interior design emphasizes a minimalist aesthetic using materials like semi-aniline leather and bamboo.

In contrast, the 2026 Lexus IS received varied safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). While the vehicle earned flawless marks for collision avoidance technology, including vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian automatic braking, it received a “marginal” rating in the moderate overlap front crash test. This result, along with “marginal” scores for certain side impact structural components and rear passenger chest protection, prevents the model from achieving a Top Safety Pick accolade.
