Lexus unveils electric LFA supercar concept aiming for 2027 launch

Lexus presented a second‑generation LFA electric supercar concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2026. The prototype, still covered in camouflage, is expected to enter production in 2027 and will share its aluminium platform with Toyota’s GR GT sports car.

The LFA EV will be powered by Toyota’s long‑awaited solid‑state batteries, promising roughly 1,000 km (WLTP) range, ten‑minute charging and up to four‑times longer durability than current packs. Production volumes are expected to be very limited, aligning with the model’s low‑run‑size positioning.

Design lead Shogo Kasamatsu said, “The LFA itself had a very simple, artistic design based on functionality,” and highlighted the minimalist styling that will carry over to the production version. Program director Yukihiro Yukita added that the goal is “to convince drivers of supercars that the switch to electric is worthwhile,” avoiding artificial engine sounds while delivering true electric performance. The concept also features a yoke‑style steering wheel, paddle shifters and a digital cockpit.

While Toyota has shifted solid‑state battery timelines multiple times, the company now targets a practical rollout between 2027 and 2028, with the Lexus LFA positioned as the brand’s flagship testbed for the technology.
